Saving Money While Traveling

May 14th, 2009 at 01:30 pm

We are going out of town for the weekend and I'm super excited about it. When we travel we try to be as frugal as possible about some things so that we can enjoy what we want in other areas.

Food is a good example. We will bring snacks, drinks, and sandwich items so that we can save money at meal time. This way those meals that we do eat out can be a little nicer.

We also always stop at the welcome center when traveling to pick up brochures and coupons.

So how do you save money when traveling?

We do the same thing! When we went to the beach last month, we took sandwich stuff, chips and snacks. Then we planned to eat out one meal a day. I was worried about sticking to this, but it worked perfectly! We also ate the free breakfast at the hotel. I also looked for cheap activities that were lots of fun!

Totally agree with you on bringing food! DH always looks at me like I have 2 heads when I'm packing my little cooler, but come lunch time, who's rummaging around for BLTs and granola bars? Smile

We also usually rent a cottage or cabin, so we have full kitchen(saving money on eating out again, so we can have a couple nice meals out!)

We always bring food too; and if we do stay in a hotel, I'm pretty compulsive about finding the best place, with the best perks, at the best price. I always ask about AAA discount if I'm not pricelining or hotwiring a hotel.
Last spring in Chicago, the hotel gave me the frequent guest gift package even though I booked through Hotwire. I showed my Hilton Honors card and got an upgraded room too.
